That being said, the guidelines and the requirements indicate that Epic prefers a more cautious approach compared to Steam. The storefront also wants developers to ensure that their games come with achievements if they have them on other platforms.Įpic Games Store has now become another platform on which game developers can sell their titles. For example, if the game has online elements, it must be compatible with the Steam or GOG version of the said title. The gaming giant also requires developers who previously put their titles on other stores to support compatibility. While Valve's storefront has been quite flexible with games that include mature content, Epic Games Store directly states that it will not allow pornography and products with Adults Only ratings. While that spells good things for indie developers, Epic does not seem like it will go soft on games with mature content like Steam, though. Especially with its tempting revenue split, the PC storefront should start offering a ton of indie games soon. It is safe to say that the Fortnite developer has passed a solid milestone in its rivalry against Steam. Steam, on the other hand, adopts the traditional 70/30 revenue split. That said, Epic's humble revenue split of 12% will almost certainly attract thousands of game makers to host their games on Epic Games Store. No hate, or anything, just that Epic launcher pretty far behind compared to Steam, and also I prefer to have my games in one spot if possible as that just me personally which I have been using Steam for the longest before GoG release. While this undoubtedly strengthens Epic's hand against Valve's storefront, Steam remains the most prominent platform on PC both for AAA and indie developers. Go with steam as theres better availability of servers and offline playing support (not for games but to access your library). There is no doubt that this change will have a massive impact on developers' platform choices in the future. And if the game does not contain full-on pornography, any indie developer can now use the self-publishing tools and sell their games on the store.
